FAQs of HD on Direct TV
It's better to order 1 HD receiver (without order other regular for other rooms) so that you can order HD package from your cable company or HD from Verizon fiber optic line if you decide to buy another HD set or get another free HDTV from Verizon special offer during Chrismas season 2007. 12/16/07
As of December 16, 2006, Direct TV cut off the HDNet Movie (Channel 78) & Universal HD (Channel 74) without notice to old subscriber customer like us. Arcording to the news on the web, DirectTV is packaging HDnet Packing for additional $4.99. 12/06/07
The Direct TV claimed to have 70 HD channels at the moment on 10/29/07. However, there is no HD on Vietnamese channels. If you bought Direct TV on promise of more HD channels like last year since December 2006 then you don't get more HD channels until putting additional $4.99 (may be more in 2008). That's is almost over 10 months of waiting. You just buy the service which is based on what they have at the moment or your need. You don't buy because of the promise in the future and expect to pay more. That's the saleman trick. The contract is varied from 12 months to 24 months. There are some problems of local HD signals on HD receivers. It needs a technical visit. The technician said that you can fix it by swing the dish around until get a good signal (by luck) but you don't have equipment to get a precise measurement. You will get some "sneaky" fliers of "change of agreement on price or arbitration if you want to sue Direct TV". If you didn't bother to read it then it will disqualify your rights if you didn't send a reject letter back to them by saying that you are opposed because you just signed agreement on the price for 12 months or 24 months. The technical support is good but they asked the same questions of troubleshooting steps on the phone (duplicate works for nothing). The HD receivers warranty is good only for 3 months. I still scratch my head on the term "Lease fee $4.99/mo. for second and each additional receiver." but why I still need to pay if it didn't work, need to repair or technical visit. The cable companies will replace my old Comcast equipment cable box or RCN cable box for free. So there is something wrong here. Why did Direct TV know that it is only good for 3 months or set the warranty at 3 months? I paid to lease the receivers but the phone operator told me if I want to buy "warranty" on the leased ("rented") receivers. I told them "no" because I'll switch the service after the contract expired. The Direct TV package was bought from Circuit City in October 2006. The saleman didn't go into detail of the service and didn't tell any instruction except to call the toll free phone line to get your Direct TV installation. I got only receipt of the sale. The technicians are coming on time. A problem is rescheduled their installation because they didn't bring the dishes with them. The technicians were told that they need to contact the Circuit City to get the receivers and the dish. The technicians tried to drill hole before leaving andDisclaimer: The service could be change.
